David Sullivan has helped save West Ham by buying the club he has always supported with business partner David Gold, then he gave the goahead to bring the Hammerettes back to Upton Park.
Now the successful East End businessman is turning his attentions to saving Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium.
Racing has stopped at the famous venue after it was bought by London & Quadrant, who were due to apply for permission to build 490 homes on the Chingford Road site
But they are revising their plans for a large housing development in the light of a recent public consultation and have delayed their planning application.
A consortium involving West Ham owner Sullivan, which wants to purchase the stadium and reopen it as a racing venue, will now for the first time been given access to the site.
Spokesman Nick Budimir said: "(The owners) are letting us have access in about two weeks time and we will be taking in experts, including a nightclub owner, who is interested in reopening Charlie Chans.'
Support for getting greyhound racing back at Walthamstow has also been given by former England, Tottenham and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham.
It also featured in the artwork for pop band Blur's hugely successful Parklife album and the stadium is the place where England star David beckham had his first job as a teenager.
Walthamstow MP Neil Gerrard, who has been involved in talks between L&Q and the potential investors, said: 'L&Q are still saying they want to redevelop the site and build housing and are not seeking offers. But if someone makes an offer they will look at it.
'At least they are now agreeing to give access. Once that has happened, I assume David Sullivan will decide whether to make an offer.
'The question is what they think it is worth and whether that is enough for L&Q to consider it. The difficulty, maybe, is that the value of the land has gone down. It is whether L&Q are prepared to make a loss on a sale and how big a loss.'
