SOCCER legend Matt Le Tissier will be looking trim when he takes part in a world record bid - but it has nothing to do with the former Southampton and England star's weight.
Le Tiss was constantly ribbed out being a few pounds overweight during his playing days but that didn't stop him from enjoying a dazzling career in which he left many an opponent and keeper bemused by his amazing skills.
Even now the ex-Saints striker gets a bit of stick from his colleagues on Sky's Saturday Soccer as Jeff Stelling and the boys are quick to remind him that he was heavier than he perhaps should have been.
Now though Le Tissier (pictured) will look trim thanks to hairdresser Daren Terry, who will bid to break the world record for cutting hair for more than 24 hours to claim the coiffeur crown.
'Former Southampton and Wales keeper Paul Jones is a pal and will be one of my willing victims,' said Liverpool fan Daren, 41, who recently got his hands on the Premier League trophy - something his idols might have to wait a while to do.
'And he has asked Le Tiss to come along and have his hair cut - it should be a lot of fun.'
Stylist Daren plans to snip locks for just over 26 hours in a charity event he has dubbed a 'cutathon'.
'I'll be cutting hair through the night and have enough clients lined up to help me achieve this exciting new record,' said Daren, who will take on the challenge at his Lotus Styling salon in Aldwick Road, Bognor Regis.
'It's going to be tough but I am determined to do it,' he added. 'I am allowed five minutes rest each hour so I may do a four hour stint and then have 20 minutes off but we'll have to wait and see how things work out.'
It turns out that Daren is no stranger to the media spotlight thanks to his ability as a creative caricature artisan and has cut hair depicting soccer stars such such as Wayne Rooney, David Beckham and Theo Walcott.
Three charities sare et to benefit from his efforts. He plans to donate the fees from his 30 or so customers to the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice, CLIC Sargent and Try.
*The Cutathon takes starts at 6pm on Friday, March 5.
