Rugby-loving Prince Harry has today given his support to a new initiative launched by London Wasps players called Treat a Troop which will provide free tickets to the Armed Services for the big St. George’s Day Game at Twickenham on the April 24.
Prince Harry (pictured), vice-Patron of the Rugby Football Union, said: 'This is a fantastic gesture by the players.
'I know from personal experience that all members of the Armed Services are very appreciative of anything like this which recognises and rewards their hard work and dedication.'
Wasps players, including British and Irish Lion Phil Vickery, club captain Tom Rees, Danny Cipriani, Joe Simpson, Dan Ward-Smith and Dominic Waldouck are dipping into their own pockets to support the cause, which enables rugby fans to purchase tickets for serving military personnel for the Twickenham match.
The game, which has now sold over 25,000 tickets, will celebrate St George’s Day at the home of English rugby and £1 per ticket sold will go to Help for Heroes - the charitable organisation that supports injured servicemen and women.
Supporters can Treat A Troop when they buy their own tickets for this fixture by simply purchasing an additional seat in the stands.
Every extra ticket ordered will allow active servicemen or women and their families to enjoy a day out at Twickenham for the Premiership game that sees English rugby giants Wasps and Bath
Team captain Rees added: 'This is a great initiative and the team are really proud to be able to contribute.
'As individuals we have agreed that we would like to show our appreciation by kick-starting the campaign and all buy Treat a Troop tickets. We want to see as many uniformed servicemen and women in the stands as possible.
'This game is huge for us in rugby terms, but it is also a great opportunity to give back to those who represent our country and make this a great day out for everyone involved, we really hope everyone gets behind it.'
Supporters can get behind the initiative and simply add on tickets when they place their own ticket order through www.ticketmaster.co.uk or www.wasps.co.uk or by calling 0844 225 2990.
For those who have already purchased their match day tickets, you can still take part by calling 0844 225 2990. For more information visit www.stgeorgesdaygame.co.uk
